The CamEx History
1985 – The Early Days – Paul Camilleri Express
Paul Camilleri Express started transport operations in 1985 from very humble beginnings, based in the Minchinbury district of NSW, transporting building materials for AVJennings’ homes on weekends. Whilst studying a trade in fabrication on heavy vehicle/mining equipment and mechanical repairs on diesel equipment, all of the studies had taken over 10 years to complete at TAFE in NSW.
By the late 80s, Paul Camilleri Express had a variety of building products to supply to AVJennings’ homes, AV Jennings’ retirement villages, and AVJennings’ apartments. Hauling every building product from quarry material, landscape products, concreting material, and hardwood sleepers from a timber mill near Singleton in NSW.
Paul Camilleri Express employed 25 staff to carry out the delivery of these services. AVJennings was sold off in 1996, and the new owners downsized the company.
1997 – Timber, Quarries, Sydney Olympics, and Dindas
Paul Camilleri Express transported all types of equipment and material to the Sydney Olympic site — moving landscape, building material, formwork for VSL, over 2000 flagpoles on behalf of Adda Flagpoles Sydney for all the Olympic venues across NSW, and the transportation of quarry products from Readymix, Pioneer, Boral, PB White Londonderry, and PF Formation Quarries at Maroota.
During this period, Paul Camilleri Express also had agreements to transport timber products for Pine Solutions Ingleburn, Materials-In-The-Raw, and delivered Quarry products to BBC Hardware stores, MIR stores, and their sites around Sydney. And, also transported granite, slate, marble, terrazzo tiles for Meriton’s apartments to its Chatswood and Burwood sites — as well as a long working history with Allam Homes up until mid-2000.
2001 – P One Express Group P/L
After the Sydney Olympics, Paul Camilleri Express commenced work at Dindas Lew Australia in St Mary’s full-time. Working for Barry Warren, Dindas Lew Australia State Manager, delivering all timber products to all hardware stores, timber yards, frame and truss plants, and building sites in Australia’s eastern states.
In 2006 Dindas Lew Australia became Dindas Australia, and P One Express Group P/L was born — trading as Paul Camilleri Express. The company was formed to work alongside Dindas Australia as a partner to work solely for Dindas to achieve organisational goals and deliver products to the high standard Dindas expects from Paul Camilleri Express.
2011 – CamEx Transport Services
In 2011, Paul Camilleri Express reached a milestone, 10 years of operating for the one company with over 98% of goods delivered on time and the trucks arriving empty for the next day’s work with 100% reliability. At this time, we decided to become a new brand. Paul Camilleri Express — became CamEx Transport Services.
2015 – Warehouse Infrastructure Relocation, Exhibitions, Concerts, and Easter Show
Since 2015 CamEx Transport Services has also been:
- Transporting warehouse infrastructure.
- Relocating equipment and stock for expanding or downsizing businesses on the East Coast of Australia, local or interstate.

More than 2000 loads have been completed since 2015 and are still going, without incident — under the strict supervision of Paul Camilleri. No contractors were used for any of this work, everything was carried out exclusively by CamEx.
Since 2015, CamEx has also been involved in exhibitions, concerts, Easter shows, Brisbane Show (Ekka), Brisbane Exhibition Centre, ICC in Darling Harbour, Melbourne Exhibition Centre, and many country machinery field days. Most of this work ceased in January 2020 due to COVID-19.
2017-2019 – A New Era for CamEx Transport Services
In 2017, the work carried out by CamEx became exclusive to Dindas.
By 2019, CamEx Transport Services was catering to all different fields of Dindas’ transport needs — from timber yards, hardware stores, and interstate stock transfers to pick up loads from timber mills and the wharves in Port Botany, Port of Brisbane, and Melbourne.
Unfortunately, although CamEx had a contract for life, this came to end in 2019. Not only had the original contractor, the great Barry Warren, passed away, but it was also no longer profitable to operate there.
The timber trade was changing at a dramatic rate. Due to the rise of Meyer Timber (Dindas’ closest competitor) dominating the industry, CamEx Transport Services had to change the direction of its work, to stay relevant in the transport industry in the future.
Paul Camilleri learned how to drive B-doubles and obtained a multi-combination (MC class) licence, driving for Lindsay Transport Australia. He worked there from Friday-Sunday, midday to midnight, full time in December and January of each year until 2020, gaining experience in operating B-double semi-trailers. He has now been a professional B-double driver for five years without incident.
Between 2017-2020, CamEx Transport Services was the major carrier for the WestConnex, NorthConnex, and M4 motorway sound barrier upgrades. The retaining walls for the precast concrete sound barrier were manufactured by The ReinForced Earth Co. Duties involved pick up from Berkeley Vale, NSW, and Albury, Victoria, for the John Holland Group.
For CPB Contractors — 279 concrete precast loads were carried out by all of CamEx Transport’s own fleet of trucks. No subcontractors were used, and most of the work was carried out overnight, All shipments were delivered on time, without incident.

2020 – QLD Transportation Services
In 2020, the Black Summer bushfires and the pandemic of COVID-19 meant limited work opportunities. CamEx commenced full-time transportation of groceries, building supplies, motor vehicle parts, and mining equipment from Sydney to Melbourne to Sydney to Brisbane regularly. This only lasted for three months — the borders closed due to COVID-19 restrictions and lockdowns.
Camex Transport Services chose to remain operational in Queensland, hauling groceries, mining and agricultural equipment, tools and building supplies for hardware stores. From Brisbane-Mackay-Bowen-Townsville-Cairns-Cooktown and returning to Brisbane market with pumpkins or potatoes, and even the odd load of scrap metal blocks from Sims Metal in Cairns to Brisbane.
Since this work was not consistent enough for two B-doubles, Paul Camilleri shifted the company’s focus towards work in the mining industry — hauling mining and agricultural equipment. From Gladstone, Rockhampton, Mackay, and Townsville, delivering to mines and farms all over outback Queensland. Coal mine locations covered Longreach, Moranbah, Emerald, Rolleston, Dysart, and the Carmichael mine owned by Bravus Mining and Resources in the Mount Coolon and Belyando Crossing areas. During 18 months, CamEx Transport Services hauled:
- Over 12000 tonnes.
- 36 tonnes at a time.
- More than 340 B-double loads.
Conditions were terrible, highways covered in huge potholes and subsided sections, corrugations on roads that carried on for hundreds of kilometres, a temperature that hovered around 45 degrees, with animals roaming the roads at night. Despite this, the job was completed, consistently — all scheduled loading/unloading times were met, without any incident.
Building Relocations and Roadworks Projects
Since 2017 CamEx has relocated new and used portable buildings for the private schools sector, CPB Contracting, and the John Holland Group. Over 300 building sections, hundreds of pre-fabricated bathroom pods, and insulated roofing sheets were delivered to universities, schools, and shopping centres in NSW, Canberra, and QLD.
Concrete barriers have been moved for Coates Hire and Seymour Downer, for roadworks that were carried out on the M4 motorway and the Princess Highway from Berry to Nowra, NSW. This was all completed over a year during the night, without any incident and on time.
